Es una pena que algunos tipejos perviertan símbolos tan antiguos. Como han dicho antes, es un símbolo que significa felicidad en otras culturas. Es curioso esto de los símbolos: me chocó bastante cuando vi que la empuñadura de la espada de Ichigo en Bleach era este síbolo y me puse a investigar en la wiki (lo sé, el comentario es demasiado otaku -y hay que ser otaku para saber lo que es un otaku-). Eso me dio que pensar en otro símbolos como la bandera de España o su himno. Generaciones atrás, representaban opresión fascista, pero, como el significado de los símbolos puede variar con la historia y la cultura (como vemos con la esvástica), pensé que que para la mayoría de los que somos más jóvenes ya no tienen esas connotaciones negativas. Es más, en esta eurocopa me sorprendió que mi padre, represaliado en la dictadura por ser "hijo de", me dijese que ya era hora de olvidar las conotaciones negativas de la bandera roja y gualda, que hoy en día representaba tanto o más la democracia que la tricolor republicana.

Me parece que permitir que la esvástica se censure y se odie por el hecho de haber sido usado por los nazis es darle mas poder a los nazis, ellos cogieron este símbolo de felicidad y suerte fortuitamente y lo convirtieron en la insignia de su cruel campaña.

Creo que si esta web consigue que este simbolo deje de ser interpretado como nazi se habrá dado un gran paso en la lucha contra el nazismo. Les habremos quitado su bandera, que en realidad nunca fue suya...

I think that allowing svastica to be censored and hated because the fact of being used by nazis is give more power to nazis, they fortuitously took that symbol of happiness and prosperity and turned it into the sign of their cruel campaign.

Hopefully, one day 卐 will lose it's connotation with racism. What the nazis did was horrible, but please do not associate them with Europe and America, the majority of Europeans were against them, and as for Americans, there are nazis that exist there, but they are few and far between and will never be accepted by the rest of Americans.

When directly associated with the genocidical killings of millions of people, yeah, it's a bad symbol.

I used to draw this symbol everywhere before I learned what the Germans had used it for.

I eventually discovered it's earlier meanings and have always wondered what drew me to be so obsessed with the symbol even though I never knew it's meaning.

I first figured I was maybe a nazi in a past life, but upon finding out it's original place, maybe I was a bhuddist reincarnated. I like that idea better.

The 卐 in fact has been the emblem for Aryans (Iranians) since 3 to 4 thousand years ago. Note that Aryans were a tribe in central Asia who then were divided into 3 groups: one group went to Persia (today's Iran), one group went to Northern India, and the other group went to Europe which is known to be mainly in Germany.
Other than that, the 卐 was the sign for all these 3 groups of Aryans. Years later it also became a symbol for Hinduism and such.

Unfortunately Adolf Hitler chose the 卐 as the Nazis' symbol to make everybody feel that they are true Aryans, whilst 卐 is the symbol of Sun-God Mithra, purity, and peace for all Aryans including myself.

I can see the point you are trying to make but i feel labeling all European's racist is not correct, of course that symbol is not racist...its a symbol a picture in itself harmless and the Nazi party did not choose the symbol as it had a racist meaning, but the party did commit many atrocities under that symbol and i am afraid to say that has tared it somewhat but as i said i can see the point you are trying to make and people should learn more before jumping the gun and assuming something suck as the symbol is racist or for example because some Europeans have an issue with that symbol then we are all racist, do not make wild accusations please its rather offensive

now, I think the text on the main page should be changed. as it is right now, it sounds like you're denouncing all europeans as racists. it sounds like the webmasters think that all europeans are racists. I am european myself, and even though I do not take a lot of offense in such things, you should slightly change the formulation, this being a site that's very anti-racism and pro understanding.

It is a shame that we have been molded by our own ignorance to believe it to be from one source. A friend of mine has this as a tattoo on his wrist, mostly to provoke a conversation with someones ignorance, but he uses it as a symbol of luck. on a funny note he also has a tattoo of the iconic Jesus Christ naked bending over himself and giving himself a reach around, then underneath it says F U C K Jesus, Best tattoo i have ever seen or heard of.

My Brother lives in Swastika, they recently celebrated 100 years. They were there way before Hitler perverted what it means. Peace. Unless as one person mentioned its flipped.

people what you have been talking about is a swastika. you mean though to be talking about the manji, a very old Hindu symbol meaning something along the lines of, peace and prosperity. here are some examples of a manji's http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=manji&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi . Ayes, it was in a way stolen and made into the swastika but a manji's are the other way!! a you can see a swastika is the reverse of a manji, as it was reversed when Hitler took it as his symbol of Nazis. i hope you understand now the difference between a swastika and a manji.

no, smart-alek portrayals with reference to Nazi Germany should be viewed as assholish. Its connotations does not overshadow its original intent, maybe in the western world where the only thing ppl care about IS the western world but the symbol has existed time out of mind. Its simplicity and age easily make it one of the earliest symbolic figures of mankind. It has a positive meaning anywhere you got outside Europe and the US. The rest of the world should not have to conform and give this symbol, which is being done due to pressure from the west, just because the west feels like everyone should be going emo over it with them.

No i don't like hitler, no im not anti-semitic, yes i feel for the Jews but one of the things i hate in this world more than anything is ppl having to give up their native cultures to appease the western world and the western world forcing its own cultures upon everyone else.
